Strategy and Planning - NEMA’s Annual Corporate Report FY2013/14
NEMA’s Annual Corporate Report (ACR); provides information on its achievements, outputs, outcomes and challenges. During the FY2013/14, NEMA has enhanced environmental compliance and enforcement of the environmental law, regulations and standards; through access to environmental information and awareness, education and public participation. As a result new and emerging environmental issues and challenges in relation to: Oil & Gas; Climate Change; Biotechnology and Biosafety; Biodiversity loss; Electronic waste; and Chemicals; among others have been endorsed for integration into the policy and legal frameworks.
NEMA also engaged in National, Regional and International partnerships as well as networks for effective management of the environment. To this end, environment and natural resource considerations have been integration into policies, plans, programs and projects at National and Local Government levels specifically in the NDP-II and in ENR sub- sector plans.
Although institutional capacity remains a challenge, in the year 2013/14, NEMA established a regional office to monitor oil and gas activities in the Albertine Graben, recruited 5 personnel and trained 41 personnel from NEMA, Ministries, Agencies, and Local Government on environmental aspects of Oil and Gas.
