NEMA Research and Innovations Student Support Grant 2026-2027<\/h1>\n <\/div>\n

1. Background 
<\/span>The\nNational Environment Management Authority (NEMA) recognizes that effective environmental\nstewardship and sustainable development require robust scientific evidence,\ninnovative solutions, and technologies to inform planning, regulation,\nconservation, and environmental compliance.\nNEMA\nis mandated under the National\nEnvironment Act, Cap. 181 to support and promote environmental research\nand innovations. In fulfilment of this mandate, NEMA, in collaboration with relevant\nstakeholders, prepared the National\nEnvironment Research Agenda (NERA) 2024\/2025-2029\/2030, a five-year\nstrategic framework that provides direction for research and innovation aimed\nat addressing Uganda\u2019s priority and emerging environmental challenges.\nOne of the mechanisms for\noperationalizing NERA is through strategic collaboration with universities,\nacademia, research institutions, and other relevant stakeholders.

2. Purpose of the Call <\/span>\n
This call invites eligible University\nstudents to submit proposals for research\nstudies<\/b> that generate credible scientific evidence and innovation projects<\/b> that demonstrate practical, scalable, and\nsustainable solutions to environmental challenges. The proposals should aim to\naddress priority environmental challenges identified in this call.\nPriority will be given to proposals\nthat demonstrate clear potential for practical\napplication, scalability, knowledge uptake, technology transfer, and measurable\nenvironmental benefits.

3. Priority Research and Innovation Areas for 2026\u20132027 <\/span>\n
NEMA invites proposals under the\nfollowing THREE priority areas obtained from NERA; 
A. Pollution and Waste Management <\/span>\n
Under this priority area, proposals\nshould focus on research and\/or innovations on environmental pollution\nprevention, control, monitoring, waste management, and remediation.                                                    
B. Ecosystems, Biodiversity and Genetic Resources <\/span>\n
Under this priority area, proposals\nshould focus on research and\/or innovations that support biodiversity\nconservation, ecosystem management, restoration, and sustainable utilisation of\ngenetic resources. 
C. Environmental\nDigital Technologies <\/span>\n
Under this priority area,\nproposals should focus on research and\/or innovations that apply digital and\nemerging technologies to strengthen environmental monitoring, compliance, and assessment,\npromote circular economy and resource efficiency, advance clean and green\ntechnologies, and enhance climate change adaptation and resilience.
\n
4. Eligibility Criteria\nApplicants must meet the following\nrequirements: <\/span>\n
i)      Be a Ugandan citizen; 
ii)    For a research grant, the applicant\nshould be a Master student who has\ncompleted coursework at an accredited university in Uganda; iii)   For an innovations grant, the\napplicant should be a registered student at an accredited university in Uganda; \n
iv)   Be undertaking research that is\nrelevant to the NEMA research and innovation priority areas;  \n
v)    Only environmental innovations at\npiloting phase will be supported; and \n
vi)   Applicant should NOT<\/b> be a NEMA staff member.
\n
5. Grant Conditions <\/span>\n
Budget <\/span>\n
All budgets must be presented in<\/span><\/span>Ugandan Shillings (UGX)<\/span><\/span>\n
The grant will support eligible research and innovation\ncosts, including: Field and laboratory consumables; Local field travel expenses,\nData collection and analysis, Reporting, results dissemination, and Piloting.   
NB:<\/b>The\ngrant does not cover tuition fees, salaries, or other costs not directly\nrelated to the approved research and innovation project framework<\/i>. 
Timeline <\/span>\n
The research and innovation\nactivities, including analysis, reporting, and dissemination of results, must\nbe completed within six (6) months<\/b> from the date of approval and signing\nof the grant agreement.

6. How to apply <\/span>\n
Applicants are required to complete\nthe online application form which can be accessed on the NEMA website. 
No\nPhysical delivery of applications shall be accepted. 
The\nsubmission deadline is Friday 23rd\nOctober, 2026. <\/b>\n
NOTE:<\/b> Any form of falsification,\nor lobbying will lead to automatic disqualification or cancellation of the\nGrant Award.
