The initiative is funded by the International Growth Centre, with support from the London School of Economics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>What the Project Will Achieve<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Over the next year, the project will:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">Strengthen household and community-level waste collection and segregation<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Promote proper sorting of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Support safe transportation through licensed waste handlers<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Create opportunities for recycling and composting to boost local livelihoods<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Deploy community scouts to drive behaviour change and improve coordination<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">A neighbouring area, Kiwanga, will serve as a control site to measure project impact.<br \/>\nLocal authorities have welcomed the initiative, noting recurring challenges such as street littering, drainage blockage, and low community participation. The project aims to build a culture of responsible waste handling, supporting long-term urban planning and a cleaner, healthier environment.<br \/>\nOnce proven successful, the pilot will be scaled across Mukono Municipality and eventually to other urban centres nationwide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Did You Know?<\/b><br \/>\nSection 97(1) of the National Environment Act, Cap. 181 prohibits littering. Individuals responsible for homes, commercial premises, or vehicles must ensure waste is not disposed of in public places or waterways.
