NEMA through a Technical Working Group sharpens the 7th National Report (7NR) on biodiversity conservation in Uganda.

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), through a dedicated Technical Working Group chaired by NEMA Senior Manger Department of Environment Planning and Coordination, Mr. Sabino Ogwal, is actively preparing Uganda’s 7th National Report (7NR) on biodiversity conservation for submission to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

Key Thematic Areas of the 7NR include:

  • Biodiversity
  • Biosafety and Biotechnology
  • Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS)
  • Mainstreaming Biodiversity
  • Awareness and Capacity Building

The Technical Working Group comprises a diverse range of stakeholders, including representatives from government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, academic institutions, Cultural Institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations, Youth Representatives, Indigenous People Communities, and other key partners.

This report is being developed under the framework of the National Biodiversity Strategic Action Plan (NBSAP), aligned with the Cartagena protocol on Biosafety and Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit Sharing in Uganda (ABS). The initiative is supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF-8) through UN Environment Programme.

The final report will reflect Uganda’s progress and commitments in biodiversity conservation and is expected to be submitted to the Convention on Biological Diversity by February 2026.
