Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Process

In case you intend to undertake a project on your land, please verify if it requires certification from a lead agency or the National Environment Management Authority.

1. Refer to Schedule 4 and 5 of the National Environment Act, Cap. 181 to check if your project requires an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment or a Project Brief.

• Schedule 4 shows lists of projects for which Project Briefs are required and where it should be submitted. 
• Schedule 5 provides Categories of Projects for which an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment is mandatory.
• Schedule 10 shows list of Projects Which may require Environmental and Social Impact Assessments.
• Schedule 11 shows list of Projects or Activities Exempted from Environment Assessments.

2. Check for lists of certified environmental assessors to help assess your land and project for environmental and social impact from this website.

3. Visit our portal Environmental Licensing and Management Information System (ELMIS) and create an account or login to submit your Project brief, ToR or ESIA.

4. The assessment of your submission follows the processes below.

5. To check the status of your project approval, login to your profile.

6. You will be notified whether your project was approved or rejected.
