"Ensuring Sustainable Development"

NEMA’S Mt. Elgon Project Trains Sub-County Agricultural Extension Workers and Community Development Officers Gender Mainstreaming in ILM Using GALS Methodology.

NEMA’s Mt. Elgon Project has conducted a two-day training in Kapchorwa, Eastern Uganda, bringing together Sub-county Agricultural Extension Workers and Community Development Officers for training on gender mainstreaming in Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) using the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) methodology.

The training is designed to strengthen the capacity of these frontline officers to implement the project’s Gender Mainstreaming Strategy and Action Plan (GMSAP), particularly in addressing barriers that hinder women and men from participating in and benefiting from the Mt. Elgon Project.

Frontline officers are critical links between communities and development interventions. Equipping them with practical approaches to gender mainstreaming can help ensure that conservation and landscape management efforts are not only environmentally sustainable, but also inclusive and beneficial to both women and men.

As efforts to conserve the Mt. Elgon ecosystem continue, putting gender equality at the centre of landscape management is an important step towards ensuring that no one is left behind.

Building stronger landscapes means ensuring everyone has a voice and an opportunity to contribute and benefit.
