The National Environment Management Authority is the principal agency in Uganda responsible for coordinating, monitoring, regulating and supervising environmental management in the country. We are mandated to oversee all activities in the field of environment.
NEMA’s authority, roles and functions are drawn from the National Environment Act, No 5 of 2019. As an institution, we support Government in the realization of the objectives stipulated in the National Development Plan III, Vision 2040 and international obligations such as the Sustainable Development Goals. To achieve these, we work with Government Ministries Departments and Agencies, the private sector, civil society and other relevant partners.
A number of steps have taken by NEMA including strategic planning, formulation of environment regulations, standards and guidelines to address new and emerging environmental concerns. This website is one of the tools through which NEMA hopes to achieve strategic environmental literacy, facilitate access to environment information and cause popular participation in environment by relevant stakeholders.
On this website you will find documents in our legal framework, information about projects we are implementing, a database of EIA practitioners, relevant reports, media statements and other publishable materials. Please, do not hesitate to contact us using all the available channels for further inquiries.
