Government of Uganda to Revive National Cleaning Days

The Government of Uganda, through the Office of the Prime Minister and NEMA, is rolling out National Cleaning Days, a powerful initiative to unite citizens, leaders, and communities in keeping our environment clean and healthy. With NEMA being the focal point for the coordination of the initiative, government ministries, agencies and other private sector organisations got together to strategise on the execution of the initiative.

The National Cleaning Days objectives include:

  • Raise awareness about the importance of a clean environment.
  • Mobilise every Ugandan to take part in cleaning their surroundings.
  • Empower leaders to champion this cause.

The meeting was attended by the representatives from Office of the Prime Minister, Kampala City Authority, Ministry of Local Government and Ministry of Health amongst others. While at the inaugural meeting, Dr. Barirega Akankwasah, the Executive Director of NEMA communicated that Uganda previously had national cleanup days and this should be revived through a collective action from all government, private sector and the community in the implementation of the National Cleanup Days.

Dr. Barirega Akankwasah, Executive Director of NEMA

Together, we can reduce disease, save lives, and build a healthier Uganda.
