NEMA Honoured by Stanbic Bank for Excellence in National Schools Championship

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has been honored with a prestigious award from Stanbic Bank Uganda in recognition of its outstanding performance during the National Schools Championship Season 11, held from January to August 2026.

The award was presented at the grand finale on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Mestil Hotel, Nsambya. The event was graced by the Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe, as Guest of Honor. Also in attendance was Ms. Sarah Kagingo, Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Private Sector Foundation Uganda and Member of the NEMA Board of Directors.

Promoting Environmental Awareness

NEMA’s participation was anchored in the Ozone Moment, an initiative designed to raise awareness about the protection of the Ozone Layer and the global agreements safeguarding it, including the Montreal Protocol and its Amendments. This year marked the 10th anniversary of the Kigali Amendment, a milestone celebrated worldwide.

Learners were engaged through essay writing, project proposals, and quizzes focused on the achievements of the Montreal Protocol. To ensure inclusivity, NEMA created a dedicated window for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), affirming the Authority’s belief that every citizen can contribute meaningfully to environmental protection and sustainable development.

Recognizing Excellence

Outstanding learners, teachers/coaches, and schools were rewarded with cash prizes and trophies. The best-performing schools included:

  • St. Cypriano High School – Kyabakadde
  • St. Charles Lwanga International School
  • St. Mary’s College Kisubi
  • Iganga Girls Secondary School
  • Namungalwe Parents Secondary School
  • Aga Khan High School
  • Kyebambe Girls Secondary School
  • Lira Town College
  • Kakira Secondary School

Special commendation was extended to Iganga Secondary School, Aga Khan High School, and Lira Town College for their exemplary efforts in encouraging participation of PWDs.
