ANNOUNCEMENT

Subject: Ongoing Environmental Compliance Monitoring Inspections

The National Environment Management Authority-NEMA informs manufacturing facilities in that our Environment Inspectors are conducting inspections in different manufacturing facilities in Jinja, buikwe, Iganga from February 26, 2026 to March 27, 2026.
Please take note of these key verifiable environmental aspects.
1. Legal compliance;
  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) & Licensing i.e Valid EIA certificate issued by NEMA
  • Compliance with EIA license conditions
  • Annual Environmental Audit (EA) reports submitted.
2.⁠ ⁠Effluent & Wastewater Management I.e
  • Functional wastewater/effluent treatment plant (ETP)
  • Valid Effluent Discharge License
  • Effluent quality monitoring records and Sludge management records.
3.⁠ ⁠Air Emissions Control
  • Air Emissions License (if applicable)
  • Stack emission monitoring reports
  • Air pollution control equipment (scrubbers, bag filters, cyclones) installed & maintained.
4.Solid Waste Management
  • Waste segregation (hazardous vs non-hazardous)
  • Labeled storage area for hazardous waste
  • Waste manifests and tracking records
  • Use of licensed waste transporters
  • Evidence of disposal at licensed facilities.
5.Hazardous Substances & Chemicals Management
  • Inventory of chemicals with Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Proper labeling & storage (bunded areas, secondary containment)
  • Spill kits available & accessible
  • Chemical handling procedures documented.
6.⁠ ⁠Noise & Vibration Control
  • Noise monitoring reports
  • Compliance with permissible noise levels
  • Mitigation measures (enclosures, silencers).
7.⁠ ⁠Occupational Environmental Health & Safety (Environmental Aspect)
  • Environmental risk assessments conducted
  • PPE availability related to environmental hazards
  • Emergency response plan (fires, spills, leaks)
  • Training records on environmental compliance.
8.⁠ ⁠Environmental Management Plan (EMP) Implementation
  • Documented Environmental Management Plan
  • Evidence of monitoring and corrective actions
  • Environmental policy displayed
  • Internal environmental audits conducted
  • Community engagement/CSR related to environment.
