Research & Innovation at NEMA

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is committed to advancing sustainable development through science, innovation, and evidence-based solutions. Our Research and Innovations Unit leads this effort, ensuring that environmental research directly informs policy, practice, and community action.

Research and Innovations Unit

  • Mandate: Coordinate environmental research and foster innovation.

  • Partnerships: Work with universities, research institutions, and development partners.

  • Focus Areas: Climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, pollution control, sustainable land use, and green technologies.

National Environment Research Agenda (NERA) 2024/25–2028/29

The NERA provides a five-year framework to guide Uganda’s environmental research priorities.

Objectives include:

  • Aligning national research with Vision 2040, the SDGs, and the Paris Agreement.

  • Promoting applied research that informs policy and decision-making.

  • Building capacity in academia and research institutions.

  • Enhancing knowledge sharing with communities, policymakers, and industries.
