The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is committed to advancing sustainable development through science, innovation, and evidence-based solutions. Our Research and Innovations Unit leads this effort, ensuring that environmental research directly informs policy, practice, and community action.
Mandate: Coordinate environmental research and foster innovation.
Partnerships: Work with universities, research institutions, and development partners.
Focus Areas: Climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, pollution control, sustainable land use, and green technologies.
The NERA provides a five-year framework to guide Uganda’s environmental research priorities.
Objectives include:
Aligning national research with Vision 2040, the SDGs, and the Paris Agreement.
Promoting applied research that informs policy and decision-making.
Building capacity in academia and research institutions.
Enhancing knowledge sharing with communities, policymakers, and industries.
Evidence-based policy: Stronger laws and regulations grounded in research.
Innovation-driven solutions: Adoption of green technologies and sustainable practices.
National resilience: Better preparedness for climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution challenges.
